Late summer look change: benefits and hair trends for autumn 2023
We know you don't want to hear it, but we also know that you've already realized it: the time has come to cut it out! (We're simply talking about hair, but you're free to interpret this advice however you want). Hair at the end of summer is not the same as at the beginning of the season: the heat, the salt, more frequent going out and therefore more frequent styling, in short, there are many factors that contribute to stressing your hair and damaging it in various ways.
Don't you believe it? Maybe you're just fond of the length you've reached, and we understand that, but... Read this article with us: we'll find out what the stress factors are (and therefore how to try to prevent them), how to help our hair become beautiful again and what are the cuts that will make you keep up with the times.
Why summer damages hair and how to prevent it
There are many reasons why the summer period is considered one of the most stressful for our hair. And it doesn't just concern beach lizards: there are in fact many factors that damage hair, and not just continued exposure to sunlight.
Given thatUV rays also reach you during your daily travels, and therefore not only in beach mode, they are among the main responsible for the loss of shine of your hair , of their excessive dryness and fragility and – listen, listen – also of the appearance of split ends. How many of us use the autonomous "trimming" of split ends during moments of boredom? A dirty pleasure which however does not benefit the beauty and health of our hair, so it is better to cut it all off. A compromise solution could be to use protective sprays with UV filters, which shield the effects of the sun on the hair. Again, for your long days in the sun, remember to bring a hat with you and protect your scalp with the sunscreen at the hairline and parting.

Equally harmful is the action of salt or chlorine, which is why it would be appropriate at least rinse your head with fresh water after a nice bath instead of leaving these two funny guys to act undisturbed. Salt, in fact, dries the hair in the long run; chlorine, on the other hand, weakens its structure and can even alter its color! Cap in the pool? Well yes.
Finally, increased sweating also plays its part, with annoying effects on multiple levels: the accumulation of sebum, in fact, leads to problems such as itching, dandruff and the tendency to wash it more often than recommended, further weakening this poor hair. Even the phon is not exactly a health bath: if it is not possible to let them dry naturally, you can use a heat protectant to mitigate the consequences of repeated heat and prolonged.
The benefits of cutting at the end of the season
What to do to lift our mood and that of our hair? Cutting it off, in every sense. Cutting your hair at the end of the season helps to strengthen the structure: by removing the brittle or damaged part of the hair, it strengthens the structure of the remaining part, helping it to grow back healthier. At the same time, the "eye view" of the hair as a whole changes. By eliminating as much of the damaged part as possible, the remaining length will immediately appear more vital and shiny, also freed from excess (dead) weight and therefore livelier (especially in curly hair) and more manageable in general. And there's even more: cutting your hair stimulates blood circulation in the scalp, giving "new life" to your hair, which will then grow back healthier .
In addition to the cut (or instead of a drastic cut...) there are some measures you can take to restore or protect the health of your hair in a preventive way. Since a lot of damage comes from excessive dryness, a good starting point might be to use post-summer hydrating and nourishing shampoo and conditioner.
Look for products that contain coconut oil, argan oil or keratin (and that have a good index in general, there are applications or sites that can guide you in this regard); equally use natural oils such as argan, coconut oil or jojoba oil which help repair damaged hair: apply a little quantity on dry hair before shampooing and leave the oil to act for a while before proceeding with regular washing. masks can also help you, although they require some exposure time (and there is never any time!). Opt for products with collagen, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, silk proteins and the like, which help repair hair and prevent breakage.
Last, avoid using too many styling gadgets, i.e. curling irons or straighteners, and try to respect the famous 20-30 centimeters distance between hairdryer and hair , so as not to aggravate their stress and dryness situation.
Change of look: autumn 2023 haircut trend
There is also one last and certainly no less important reason to cut your hair at the end of summer: change your look! If you really have to go back to your routine, you can do something that moves it a little starting from how you see yourself in the mirror in the morning: a new you, with a trendy cut and that makes you feel at ease.
And speaking of fashion, let's talk a little about trends. On the catwalks and in fashion magazines it is clear that classic or combined bobs with bangs are back in fashion (but have they ever really gone out of fashion?) even for curly hair, and medium cuts, with natural styling and, where present, soft layers. Since the 80s we have been given the mullet cuts, i.e. cuts shorter in front and on the sides and longer in the back.
Style note: pros and cons, the mullet is a cut that tends to elongate the face and, if useful, divert attention from marked features. It's a cut that stands out, so if this season you focus on your rebellious and non-conformist spirit, it's the cut for you.
There is a trend space for very short haircuts, which also need to be light. So yes to very short bobs (like those seen on the runway of Elisabetta Franchi), but also to pixie cuts (short on the sides and back, longer/bulkier on top) possibly paired with bangs or tufts.
And now, do you feel a little more ready to face the change of look?
