Fashionable maxi skirts: how to wear them from morning to evening
Fashionable maxi skirts: how to wear them from morning to evening
If you are short, the right pair of heels will lengthen your silhouette; if you are curvy, the right model enhances your curves or hides what you don't want others to see; if you're tall, you've won easily: in short, maxi skirts are good for everyone and luckily - for everyone! - are the new trend of the moment. A trend, we would dare say, democratic: and yes, we needed it!
In fact, they have never really gone away from wardrobes; rather, they have been considered a contract of the most nostalgic retro fashion tastes ("long live mom, fond of that skirt skirt"…), or by a few other visionaries who, as has now been loudly declared by the fashion world, had already identified the peaks of femininity and sexiness achievable with the right midi skirt.
Knee-length, calf-length, fitted or flared: let's discover together the proposals from our top brands and the thousand ways to wear a maxi skirt from evening to morning!
Change of accessories, change of mood: how to match maxi skirts
Often, just a change of accessories is enough to shift the mood of a maxi skirt from one occasion to another. A practical example? A skirt can become a fun piece for leisure time when worn with a pair of sneakers (it's better to avoid, among flat shoes, ballet flats to not fall into the "first at La Scala" effect) and a printed t-shirt, but just a pair of heels and a fitted bodysuit are enough to wear it in the evening as the most sought-after outfit, or create an original and fresh ceremony outfit.
The flat and/or gladiator sandal is another big comeback this season, which can easily pair with a maxi skirt - even with those that have a less flared design: you won't risk "stumping" the silhouette precisely because they develop vertically along the leg. And if we wear sandals, even with a medium heel and not necessarily towering, with the same skirt? An interesting outfit for an aperitif in the beautiful season, where light colors are welcome even in the evening, especially with some already acquired tan tones...
Printed and colorful maxi skirts
If it is true that in summer everything is allowed, it is also true that it would be best not to... overdo it. In a season full of opportunities to be experienced 24 hours a day, there are prints and colors that are best confined to the hours of the day before sunset, and therefore to office occasions, errands in comfort or free time.
We are talking about two-tone skirts, with light background or excessively colorful or crowded prints. You can play with the height of the heels or wedges to go from a more relaxed mood to a more ladylike look, but always within the limit (at your discretion) of the hands of the clock.
Yes to bright colors even for the evening, however, if there is theright combination of model and fabric. Try to imagine these Manila Grace proposals, presented as daytime outfits, combined with a satin top and sandals, both in black: an outfit with strong contrasts
Maxi skirt black: during the day, yes or no?
The answer to this question is: it depends. If we also consider pencil skirts within this set (which, in fact, deserve a long discussion on their own, the skirt is a classic passe-partout and valid 24/7. If instead we are thinking of more carefree models, it depends.
If it's a maxi skirt that features details to lighten the total black (contrasting stitching, belts or loops to insert a colored belt, buttons, asymmetries), we could also wear a black maxi skirt during the day, being careful not to match it with a total black top in turn. Extra tip? Try such a model with cowboy boots and give your look a country twist!
"Other more serious and abundant models, on the other hand, risk having more of an Addams effect: it's better to pair them with a fancy heel and a top for the evening, so as not to draw attention to yourself... negatively. The only exception? A nice bright white top, even with a print to 'lighten' it up even more, that neutralizes the heaviness of a maxi skirt during the day."
Outfit with maxi skirts: midi or midi skirts, extra tips!
If it is true that maxi skirts are democratic, it is equally true that there are models that are PERFECT for certain types of silhouette and others that risk not gratifying it enough. We close this article with some little extra advice on fit.
- Narrow waist and prominent hips: the so-called "pear-shaped" body, which has its strong point in the hips and backside. If you have truly significant curves, an excessively tight skirt might make you look a bit flashy, as well as uncomfortable. An interesting model to try is definitely a high-waisted maxi skirt (to emphasize the slim waist!), fitted but not too tight on the hips, and that flares out more or less from the hips down. Yes to ruffles along the hems, yes to asymmetrical designs, yes to side/front slits: they create balance along the figure and give you a feminine look without vulgarity.
- Long bust and not exactly very long legs: high-waisted models (forget the low waist and perhaps even the regular one!) and A-line, pleated or not, combined with crop tops, will be useful for rebalancing the lengths of the your physicality
- Voluminous calves: if more than a strong point it seems like something that shouldn't be put in the spotlight, the maxi skirts that are right for you are the soft ones that go down to below the calf. Completely reject skirts that stop at the knee or immediately below: it would be the equivalent of shining a spotlight on it!
- Not obvious waistline: or, again to return to the semantics of fruit, "apple-shaped" physique. Maxi skirts come to your rescue! Always high-waisted, with sashes or belts, choose a trapeze model to combine with voluminous tops (boat or bowler necklines, ruffles, soft blouses or, simply, a shirt with a soft collar that leaves the last few buttons open at the top ) to create volume at the top and bottom and optically thin the waistline.
