How to combine the lavender color in your outfits
Just pronounce the word "lavender" and the mind fills with expanses of flowers of an unmistakable color and the nose can almost breathe in the scent of this plant. Can a single word create such a clear image? Yes, especially if it refers to a sensory experience that we already recognize.
lavender is the main color of the hot season, and this is why we have thought of a guide to be able to best match it: you can't help but have a lavender item in your wardrobe if you want to keep up with the times.
The color lavender: the origins
As always, we like to first tell you a little history of the topics we are about to discuss. Lavender has always been known for its beneficial and aromatic properties: this is why the ancient Greeks and then the Romans already used it to perfume thermal waters. The plant owes its name precisely to this use: from the term used in Latin for "wash".
Its history as a dye is very interesting. It was created in the 14th century and adopted mainly for refined and valuable garments and mostly intended for a male target, but it soon began to be associated with homosexual people. It is said that even Oscar Wilde, whose homosexuality is no longer a mystery, used to define "purple hours" the hours spent with his lovers, defining them precisely through color of the clothes.
Today it continues to be used by movements that fight for gender equality and for the defense of the rights of LGBT communities: it is the meeting point between pink and blue, a color that is already a meeting point.
How to best match lavender
After this brief historical information, let's move on to the part that interests us most: the pairings. We have divided them into categories: from basic to the most extreme. And you? Where do you fit in?
Comfort zone: if you want to experiment but not too much
You're not used to wearing lavender as well as similar shades (wisteria, lilac, for example), but you want to experiment. Well, the world of shades of purple is at your disposal and we will introduce you to it little by little.
"Surely a color you can easily turn to is white (cream, ivory, ice, and all the nuances you want). Elisabetta Franchi adopts it precisely to create her peony prints, already giving you a hint about the matchability of these colors."
"It's fine to pair them completely (lavender top and pants/skirt in white or vice versa) or, in the case of dresses, you can play with contrast: brighten a sack dress or a white sheath dress with a touch of purple, or use white to lighten your outfits in the season's color."
When choosing between gold and silver for bijoux and accessories in general, with lavender the gold wins. Gold touches go perfectly with your new looks, whether it's chain belts, jewelry or applications on the bags and shoes you choose.
Finally, for your everyday looks, there is clearly the wild card: jeans. But be careful: the shades of denim are not interchangeable, so choose carefully which one to combine with your lavender top based on the intensity of the color of your garment.
Fashion victim: intermediate level
In our opinion you are someone who already knows how to play well with colors and who limits the use of those beautiful comforting total black looks or jeans and "X" shirt to dedicate yourself more scrupulously to the exploration of palettes.
For you we have thought of a level up in experimentation, thinking that perhaps you will be able to show off one of the tips we are about to give you for the next ceremony or special event, if you are not yet ready to dare in everyday life.
Lavender is indeed well suited to pastel shades, especially if they are very soft: light green, straw yellow, a timid pink, and even sky blue. This delicate palette is generally chosen for a certain type of events (weddings, garden parties, or in elegant but daytime contexts, and so on). You can also use two purples of different shades and create a complete top + skirt or pants: but no more than two!
For your daily routine, however, we recommend neutral colours: hazelnut, camel and the like go well with lavender, especially if interspersed with a third colour, which tends to it could be white. For example: neutral colored trousers, white top, lavender casual jacket. Or again, lavender dress and camel trench coat, white bag.
And for the evening? Break up your lavender outfits with black, but let it be an unmistakable black: very deep!
Extreme makeover fashion edition
If you have reached this section and still want to dare, perhaps you can give us some advice: we love your enterprising spirit!
For you who are not afraid of other people's gazes (as long as they are of admiration or curiosity, and not like "But as of clothes"), we have thought of three further combination proposals: bright green, yellow (but which is warm) and animal prints.
We recommend animalier mainly for outerwear and the lower part of the outfit. Lean towards an animalier that has a neutral background or a black/white alternation (for example zebra print).
Equally surprising is the combination with green and yellow. If you have already overcome pastel shades, you can aim for a beautiful emerald green and a bright mustard yellow or tending towards orange. Does it seem like too much color to you? In reality these three variants form a triad in the chromatic circle: they are "optically" created to harmonize well together. It's just up to us to get used to unconventional combinations: learning to dare, with taste, can be a fun way to create your own style.
